SOME THINGS THAT GOD PUTS FIRST

TEXT: MATTHEW 6:25-34

VERSE OF THE DAY:
_“BUT SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND ALL THESE THINGS SHALL BE ADDED TO YOU”- MATTHEW 6:33._

There are some of the things that God puts first in order of importance. There is a certain excitement about first things. Most of us remember our first day at school and our parents probably remember the first time we walked or talked.

One of the biggest lessons we have to learn is that of discrimination. Many things clamour for priority and we need to know how to assess their values so that we do not give first place to secondary things. For example, the soul is more important than the body [Mark 8:36]; the things of eternity are of infinitely greater importance than the things of time [2 Corinthians 4:18]; life itself is far more important than possessions [Luke 12:15, 21]; and moral strength is far more important than physical strength [Ephesians 6:10].

Much of our trouble arises from the fact that we have reversed the order; too often we are majoring in minor things, and minoring in major things. This is true nationally, religiously and individually. Where are we to find guidance in the matter of putting first things first? How are we to know what God would have us do in this matter? Here, as in every matter of faith and practice, the Word of God is our all-sufficient guide.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to be wise and to know what to major on in Jesus’ name, Amen.

VIEWING LIFE FROM GOD’S LENS

TEXT: MATTHEW 6:33

VERSE OF THE DAY:
_“HOW LONG WILL YOU JUDGE UNJUSTLY AND SHOW PARTIALITY TO THE WICKED? VINDICATE THE WEAK AND FATHERLESS; DO JUSTICE TO THE AFFLICTED AND DESTITUTE. RESCUE THE WEAK AND NEEDY”- PSALM 82:2-4 (NASB)._

Some people approach life as a competition. As Charles Darwin concluded in his theory of evolution, it is a “survival of the fittest.” Those employing this philosophy feel it is necessary to fight or be trampled. Some justify anything to get ahead or gain an advantage. They willingly distort and deceive, manipulate and bend the rules.

Even Christians can be trapped in this attitude. Thinking like the world, we can become willing to compromise our convictions.

The Bible reminds us that God wants us to trust Him. We should always do what is right and apply His principles in every situation. Remember that if we seek first His Kingdom, we can be confident that He will provide all our needs (Matthew 6:33).

The Bible tells us God looks for people with this level of trust and commitment, who are concerned more about His Kingdom than personal rewards. He is seeking those who stand for eternal values, are ready to fight for what is right, and are moved with compassion.

How you define life determines your destiny. Your perspective will influence how you invest your time, spend your money, use your talents, and value your relationships. It determines your expectations, your values, your relationships, your goals, and your priorities. For instance, if you think life is a party, your primary value in life will be having fun. If you see life as a race, you will value speed and will probably be in a hurry much of the time. If you view life as a marathon, you will value endurance. If you see life as a battle or a game, winning will be very important to you.

Ask God to give you His perspective on life and the world. Ask Him to. free you from pride and give you a greater concern for righteousness, justice, and truth. Ask Him to give you a burden for souls and to be more concerned about reaching the lost. Pray that you might use the resources He has given you to meet the needs of others and spread the Gospel.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, free me from deception. Help me to be sensitive to the needs of others. Give me a burden for souls in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
